Russell Thompson, of Montevideo, died on Thursday, January 2, 2003 at the Chippewa Co - Montevideo Hospital at the age of 59.
Funeral services were conducted on Sunday, January 5, 2003 at 2:00 PM at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church of Baxter with Rev. Ryan Fischer officiating. Burial was in the Terrace Lawn Memory Gardens.
Russell Earl Thompson was born on September 29, 1943 in Montevideo, MN to Elmer and Charlotte (Siverhus) Thompson. He was baptized and confirmed at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church of Baxter and attended rural schools and Dawson High School. He was united in marriage to Audrey Waters on July 3, 1971 at the Methodist Church in Montevideo. He farmed and later worked as a welder at Friendship homes. They lived on a farm on Rt. 5 Montevideo and were curently living in Montevideo. They spent weekends in the Battle Lake area for the past 21 years and spent part of this winter in Bullhead City, AZ. He was a member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran of Baxter, the MN Trappers Association, Monte Rod & Gun Club, Peace Pipe Ramblers and was a Lutheran Brotherhood officer and volunteer. He enjoyed traveling, camping, hunting including planning a moose hunting trip next October, cross bow hunting, trapping, fishing & spearing, gardening, playing cards and photography. He was always wanting to help others, especially his mother.
He is survived by his wife Audrey; a brother Eldo Thompson and his wife Beverly of Montevideo, MN; a sister, Evon Rose and her husband James of Montevideo, MN; an aunt, Verna Vierhuf of Minneota, MN; a great aunt, Clara Peterson; 6 nieces and nephews; 16 great nieces and nephews several cousins and a very special little friend Trixie.
He was preceded in death by his father in 1981, his mother in 1999, as well as by several aunts, uncles and cousins.
