Ruth Kittleson, of Montevideo, died on Friday, March 4, 2005 at the Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo at the age of 85.
Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, March 8, 2005 at 11:00 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church in Montevideo with Rev. Bill Odermann officiating. Interment will be in the Louisburg Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday afternoon and evening and with the family from 6 - 7 PM at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo.
Ruth Lillian Kittleson was born on March 28, 1919 in Louisburg, MN to Martin and Alma (Sorteberg) Kittleson. She was baptized and confirmed at Louisburg Lutheran Church, attended rural school in District 44 and graduated from Appleton High School. She attended Normal Training in Madison, MN. She taught in rural school districts and attended Moorhead State Teachers College during the summers, earning a 2 year teaching certificate. She taught elementary school in several towns and continued her education at Moorhead State, receiving her Bachelor’s degree in Education. She taught in several school districts throughout Minnesota including Clara City and Redwood Falls, where she was teaching when she retired in the early 1970's. After she retired she lived in Montevideo and was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where she was involved with quilting, women’s groups and teaching release time school. She enjoyed helping children in addition to her teaching. She worked for a time at the Beresford School for Children in Beresford, SD and at the DAC in Montevideo. She enjoyed working in her yard and gardening. She has been a resident of the Luther Haven Nursing Home for the past 4 years.
She is survived by a brother, Selmer Kittelson and his wife Pat of Phoenix, AZ; four sisters: Esther Larson of Los Alamos, NM, Valborg Johnson and her husband Maurice of Minneapolis, MN, Alice Cooley and her husband Roy of Mesa, AZ, and Olive Dornfeld and her husband Dave of Minneapolis, MN; two sisters-in-law: Marie Kittelson of Madison, MN and Laura Kittelson of Starbuck, MN; 16 nieces and nephews; 10 great nieces and nephews; and 1 great-great-niece and 1 great-great-nephew.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Martin and Alma Kittleson; two brothers: Melvin and Orval Kittelson; a brother-in-law, Keith Larson; and two nephews: Ronald and Gerald Kittelson.
