Ruth M. Johnson. of Madison and formerly of Montevideo, died on Friday, November 2, 2007 at the Madison Lutheran Home in Madison at the age of 92. Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, November 7, 2007 at 1:00 P.M. at the Anderson Funeral Home Chapel in Montevideo with Rev. Kirck Meseck officiating. Interment will be in Terrace Lawn Memory Gardens. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo.
Ruth Mabel (Christianson) Johnson was born on March 21, 1915 on the family farm in Camp Release Township of Lac qui Parle County, MN the daughter of Helmer and Gina (Jorgenson) Christianson. Ruth grew up on the family farm and attended rural school in District 21. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Petri Church in rural Montevideo. In 1936, Ruth married Glen Mickle in Montevideo. Shortly after their marriage they moved to Spencer, IA. Glen worked for a farmer and also worked on the railroad for six years. While living in Iowa, Ronald and DeWayne were born. They moved back to Montevideo in 1942 and farmed on the family farm. Two more children were born in Montevideo, Gary and Sandra. Glen died in 1970 and Ruth later moved into Montevideo where she was employed at Luther Haven Nursing Home for 20 years as a dietary aide. She was united in marriage with Robert Johnson in 1987. They enjoyed living at Robert’s farm before moving to the Park Avenue Apartments in Madison. Robert died in 2001 and Ruth continued to live there. She fell in June of 2007 and was hospitalized and later placed in the Madison Lutheran Home. Her special hobbies were gardening, sewing, and attending church circle.
She is survived by three children: DeWayne Mickle of Bloomington, MN, Gary (and Elvern) Mickle of Hutchinson, MN, and Sandra Meyer of Spicer, MN; twelve grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; six stepchildren: Roger Johnson of Lac qui Parle Village, MN, Sandy Johnson of Richfield, MN, Barb (and Dave) Warner of Edina, MN, Loren (and Mary Kay) Johnson of Chanhassen, MN, Rodney (and Christi) Johnson of Tenecula, CA, and Joanne (and Terry) Yackel of Cedar, MN; numerous step grand and great-grandchildren; and two sisters: Lillian Natzel of Richfield, MN and Elva Thompson of Richfield, MN.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husbands, Glen and Robert; one son, Ronald; one grandson; one son-in-law, Gordon Meyer; one brother, Henry Christianson; and one sister, Cora Remmen.
