Ruth Obermeyer died Tuesday, December 30, 2008 at Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo, MN at the age of 96. Funeral services will be held Monday, January 5, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Aberdeen, SD. Pastor Deb Grismer will officiate and interment will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Aberdeen. Visitation will be held Sunday, January 4 at Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo, MN from 2-4:00 P.M. with a prayer service at 4:00 P.M. Ruth Evelyn (Moberg) Obermeyer was born April 12, 1912 at Aberdeen, SD the daughter of August and Nellie (Nishem) Moberg. She graduated from Aberdeen Central High School in 1929 and attended Northern Normal School, which later became Northern State University, and received her teaching certificate. She taught country schools in the Webster and Westport areas, then taught school in Westport, SD and in Aberdeen, SD at May Overby. Ruth was united in marriage with Otto Obermeyer April 14, 1939 at Bristol, SD. They lived at Westport and later moved to Aberdeen. She continued her education and received her bachelors degree from Northern State University in 1971. She retired from teaching in 1974 but continued to substitute teach for many years. While living in Aberdeen, she was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church. After Otto's death in 2000, she moved to Montevideo, MN to live with her daughter until moving to Luther Haven Nursing Home. Ruth enjoyed crocheting, making dolls, and making baskets from paper bags that she gave to many people. Otto and Ruth were very supportive of their children and grandchildren and drove many miles to watch their activities. She is survived by two daughters: Judy Miller and her husband Jerry of Watertown, SD and Janeen TeBeest and her husband Darwin of Montevideo, MN; six grandchildren: David (ShinIm) Miller, Chad Miller, Kevin (Judy) TeBeest, Sharon (Nate) Boyum, Jonathon (Amanda Hosek) TeBeest, and Allison (Jason) Buckingham; eleven great-grandchildren: Paula and Rose Miller, Lane Miller, Karl, Kyle, and Kurt TeBeest, Dustin, Heather, and Janell Boyum, and Evan and James Buckingham; one sister-in-law, Eunice Moberg of CA; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Otto; two brothers: Royal and Glenn Moberg; and her sister-in-law, Florence Moberg. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be given to Rice Hospice or Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
