Ruth Eileen (Thomton) Pomroy

Montevideo

Eileen Pomroy, of Montevideo, died on Tuesday, March 15, 2005 at the Luther Haven Nursing Home at the age of 92.

Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, March 19, 2005 at 2:00 PM at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Montevideo with Rev. Donald McKee officiating.  Interment will be in the Sunset Memorial Cemetery.  Visitation will be Friday afternoon and evening and with the family from 4 - 6 PM at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo.

Ruth Eileen (Thomton) Pomroy was born on September 22, 1912 in Montevideo, MN to Olaf and Christine (Lofthus) Thomton.  She was baptized and confirmed at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Montevideo and graduated from Montevideo High School in 1929. In August of 1940 she was united in marriage to Donald Pomroy at the Little Brown Church in the Vale in Nashua, IA.  She worked for many years as a secretary for Northern States Power Co., worked as a legal secretary and retired as Deputy Clerk of Court for Chippewa County.  She was a lifelong member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church, where she was active in circle and Ladies Choir.  An accomplished pianist, she was the accompanist for the Lorraine Dance Studio in Montevideo and later was part of a piano duo that entertained residents of area nursing homes and performed for many regional functions.  She enjoyed playing scrabble and cards, doing cross-word puzzles, playing the piano and loved music from the Swing/Big Band era.  She had been living at Copper Glen for the past 3 years and had recently moved to the Luther Haven Nursing Home.

Eileen is survived by two daughters: Carmen Elliott and her husband Russell of Philadelphia, PA and Jane Jamison and her husband Larry of Goshen, IN; three grandchildren: Tamara, Annie and James; five great grandchildren; a brother, Clifton Thomton and his wife Genevieve of Glen Ellyn, IL; sisters: Bernice Lindeberg of Richfield, MN and Helen Jacobs and her husband Don of Montevideo; as well as by nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Donald in 1984, a brother Norris Thomton in 1997 and a sister, Luella Eid.
