May 19, 1925 — May 5, 2020

Ruth Thorsland, Appleton died on Tuesday, May 5, 2020 at the Appleton Nursing Home at the age of 94.

A private family memorial graveside service will be held on Tuesday, May 26, 2020.  A video of the service will be available on the Anderson-TeBeest website on May 27, 2020.

Ruth Helen Thorsland was born in Montevideo to Peter P. and Martha J. (Lynne) Saue.  She was baptized and confirmed at Jevnaker Lutheran Church.  She attended and graduated from Montevideo High School.  Ruth was united in marriage to the love of her life, Kermit Thorsland, at Jevnaker Lutheran Church on April 20, 1947.   They had two children together, Mick and Mark.  The family lived in the Big Bend area for many years and Ruth enjoyed and thrived at being a homemaker for her family.

Ruth was an active member of Big Bend Lutheran Church where she was involved in the WELCA organization and in a circle.  She was also a member of the Legion Auxiliary. Ruth enjoyed bowling, golf, crocheting, and quilting.  Along with her family, she loved spending time at the lake making memories with grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  Ruth was a loving and devoted wife, mother, sister and grandma.  Family will remember her as a wonderful and compassionate caregiver, especially for her mother and then for her husband following his stroke.  Her strength in both personal and moral character, as well as her quiet humor will be missed by those close to her.   However it is comforting to know that Ruthie has been reunited with Kerm and they can once again dance the night away.

Ruth is survived by her sons: Mick (Mary Jean) Thorsland of Bloomington, MN and Mark (Terri) Thorsland of Milan, MN; six grandchildren: Cory Thorsland, Tricia O'Hara, Traci (Kyle) Kennedy, Crist Thorsland, Alissa Thorsland and Maari (Justin) Berg: 13 great-grandchildren: Carter, Parker, Spencer, Ranger, Sawyer, Rowen, Gradon, Kaison, Kaia, Bryn, Finley, Greta and Griffin; as well as extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Kermit in 2013; great-granddaughter, Megan Thorsland; brothers: Gordon Saue, Paul Saue; and sister, Irene Hirschman.
