Sandra Marie (Rupp) Weber was born August 12, 1937 to Vernon and Berdella (Raddohl) Rupp. She was baptized and confirmed at Hazel Run Lutheran Church. In Sandra’s younger years, she attended country school and lived on a farm that would later become the Upper Sioux State Park. She would often reminisce that one of the things she missed the most was being able to run up and down those hills. When she was 11, her family moved to Clarkfield. Sandra attended (and graduated from) Clarkfield High School. She was active in the band, 4-H, Luther league, adventures with her younger sister Zona, helping on the farm, spending time with her grandparents, and riding her horse, Trigger. After high school, Sandra attended Northwestern Nursing School where she received her degree as a registered nurse. It was during this time, she met Robert Weber. After a short courtship, they were united in marriage October 8, 1960. Together, they raised their five children in Granite Falls.
Sandra’s 40+ years in health care served the region as an ambulance member, registered nurse, head nurse, hospital & nursing home administrator, and nursing instructor. In fact, Sandra was still teaching her caregivers how to be a good nurse right up until the end. After her official retirement from nursing, Sandra worked for Parent’s Anonymous combatting child abuse. Throughout their life together, Sandra and Robert farmed full-time, raised cattle (and other animals), maintained their love of horses, and owned/operated Weber Gravel. Sandra liked to share her love for playing the piano, combining crops during harvest, teaching how to play a winning hand of solitaire, and baking the perfect sugar cookie.
Sundays were always spent with church and Sunday dinners with family. She and Robert spent their free time at their lake cabin. Teaching others about Jesus was important to Sandra. She was a scholar of the scripture and shared it through bible study, ladies aid, as a confirmation instructor, Sunday school teacher, and music. Even in her late-stage dementia, Sandra knew the words to every hymn. When asked what she’d like people to know about her, Sandra said she didn’t want people to feel sorry for all the pain she had. It was important to her that people knew her needs were minimal in comparison to many who need so much more. Sandra also said it was important to her to always have treats so the kids knew “you count”…lemon pepper chicken for her grandkids and ice cream for her great grandkids. For visitors, there was always a cup of coffee.
Sandra and Robert shared a beautiful 58-year love story. After Robert’s death, Sandra’s wishes to remain at home on the farm were honored. Even during the health care shortage, God blessed Sandra with a team of loving, compassionate, and dedicated employees. If they weren’t already family, they quickly became it. Surrounded by many family members and these caregivers, she passed away peacefully at the farm in the early hours of August 2nd just 10 days shy of her 86th birthday. She often said, “When the good Lord is ready for me, I’m ready for Him”. Some of her last words were “Jesus”, “Jesus”. In her final moments, her eyes opened, were filled with life, and sparkled toward Heaven. He was ready for her and she was indeed ready for Him.
Sandra is survived by her children Hollis (Vera) Weber of New London, Todd (Diane) Weber of Watson, Kyle (Pam) Weber of New London, Tanya Yerigan of Granite Falls, and Bobbie (Tim) Alcorn of Granite Falls; 22 grandchildren and 34 great grandchildren; sister, Zona (Roger) Larson; one niece and two nephews; and numerous extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert; her grandson, Clint McCoss; and her son-in-law, Tim Yerigan.
