Selma A. Johnson was born on January 9, 1905, in Porter, MN, to August and Clara (Willander) Fredlund. She was baptized and confirmed at Providence Valley Lutheran Church and attended country school in Oshkosh Township. She lived with and took care of her parents and moved into Dawson in 1927. She worked for several restaurants in Dawson and later, for many years at the Dawson Hospital. She was united in marriage to Gilbert Johnson on April 26, 1958, at Providence Valley Lutheran Church in rural Dawson. They lived in Dawson and after Gilbert's death on March 26, 1975, she moved to the Pleasant View Apartments in Dawson. On August 14, 1990, she entered the Johnson Memorial Home in Dawson and remained there until her death on Monday, April 12, 1999, at the age of 94 years, 3 months, and 3 days.
She was active in church Bible study and circles, liked flowers, and loved to cook, which her families enjoyed. She volunteered at the nursing home and received the volunteer RSVP Award signed by Governor Perpich.
She is survived by her stepchildren: Maynard (Madeleine) Johnson of Minneapolis, Marcy (Lloyd) Diddy of Olympia, WA, and Delores Baumhofer of Montevideo; stepdaughter-in-law, Elise Johnson of Redwood City, CA; 11 stepgrandchildren; nephews and nieces, other family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gilbert; sister, Alice (Gust) Beecher; 6 brothers: Elmer, Axel, Oscar, Arthur, Carl, and Walter Fredlund; stepson, Gerald Johnson; and stepson-in-law, Gail Baumhofer.
