Shirley Brovold, of Watson, died on Wednesday, May 1, 2013 at the Chippewa County Montevideo Hospital in Montevideo at the age of 73. Funeral services will be conducted on Sunday, May 5, 2013 at 1:00 P.M. at the Watson Lutheran Church with Rev. Larry Olson officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Cemetery in Montevideo. Visitation will be Saturday afternoon and evening with the family present from 4 - 7 P.M. and with a prayer service at 6:30 P.M. at the Anderson - TeBeest Funeral Home in Montevideo.
Shirley (Johnson) Brovold was born on June 5, 1939 in Montevideo, MN to Mr. and Mrs. Merle Johnson. She grew up and attended school in Montevideo. On July 28, 1956 she was united in marriage to David Brovold in Montevideo. They lived in Montevideo for several years and spent ten years in Lino Lakes, MN before moving to Watson in 1970. She worked for several years at the Milan Public School before retiring in 2001. Shirley was an active member of Watson Lutheran Church. Her greatest love was her children and her family. She loved her home, cooking and baking for others, and most importantly loved being a part of her family.
She is survived by six children: Heather (and Warren) Redfield of Glenwood, MN, Kevin, (and Kim) Brovold of Alexandria, MN, Mitch, (and Karen) Brovold of Granite Falls, MN, Susan, (and Ryan) Gilbertson of Montevideo, MN, Natalie, (and Doug) Marks of Redwood Falls, MN and Nathaniel “J.J.” (and Jen) Brovold of Watkins, MN; seventeen grandchildren: Nicole, Jessica, Kelsey, Jeremy, Justin, Nathan, Stephanie, Garret, Leah, Paige, Joe, Amanda, Aaron, Britney, Ellie, Tate and Grace; seventeen great-grandchildren: Ryann, Taylor, Logan, Jada, Jorja, Jack, Henry, Regan, Lucas, Ayla, Hailey, Nevaeh, Elijah, Kaden, Kaylee, Etta, and arriving tomorrow is Isabella; a step-mother, Ina Johnson of Montevideo; five sisters: Judy Dandurand of St. Cloud, MN, Linda (Gary) Radtke of Eden Prairie, MN, Gloria (Lerry) Hargrave of Boyd, MN, Brenda (David) Raffelson of Austin, MN and Becky (Mark) Brown of Albion, NB; an uncle, aunts, as well as by a number of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband David in 2010; a granddaughter Hannah Gilbertson; a brother Lyle Johnson; and an infant sister.
