Shirley Anna Belle (Johnson) Ervin was born on October 30, 1928 to Carolus and Clara (Hildahl) Johnson. She was baptized and confirmed at Big Bend Lutheran Church. She attended and graduated from Milan High School. Shirley was united in marriage to Howard E. Ervin at Big Bend Lutheran Church on April 6, 1946. They lived in Big Bend Township until 1959, then moved to Leenthrop Township, and later into Maynard in 1974. She worked as a bookkeeper and design consultant for many years.
Shirley was a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother who loved to make holidays extra special for family and friends. She enjoyed cooking, baking, painting, decorating, crafts, quilting and was an accomplished seamstress. She was dedicated to her church, serving for the many activities and planning of bazaars. She enjoyed visiting the nursing home and assisting people in their times of need. Shirley was also the “master” of packing the lunch box for her husband and son with wonderful homemade treats. Her family will be enjoying her beautiful Norwegian Hardanger pieces for years to come. One of her greatest enjoyments was to go dancing with Howard.
Shirley is survived by six children, Barbara Ervin of Phoenix, AZ, Bonita (Ron) Alstad of Buffalo, MN, Barry (Michelle) Ervin of Chanhassen, MN, Bradley (Kathy) Ervin of Eden Prairie, MN, Beth (Gordon) Fawcett of Belize, and Brent (Cathy) Ervin of Maynard; fourteen grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren and numerous nephews, nieces and extended family.
