Shirley Rikke, of Montevideo, died on Wednesday, December 9, 2009 at the Chippewa County - Montevideo Hospital at the age of 84. Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, December 14, 2009 at 2:00 P.M. at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Montevideo with Rev. Donald S. McKee officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 - 7 P.M. on Sunday with a prayer service at 6:30 P.M. at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo. Shirley Helen (Koenen) Rikke was born on July 30, 1925 in Chippewa County, MN to Henry and Martha (Groothuis) Koenen. She was baptized in Clara City and confirmed in Montevideo. She attended rural schools and graduated from Montevideo High School in 1943. She worked at the Swift & Co Creamery for several years. On April 6, 1957 she was united in marriage to Walter Rikke at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Montevideo. She later worked at Archer-Daniels-Midland and at the Montevideo Schools. She was a long-time member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Montevideo and was active in many church organizations and activities. She was also a member of the VFW Auxiliary. She enjoyed playing cards, traveling, especially to Germany, going out for coffee and loved her family and especially her grandchildren. She is survived by her husband, Walter; two sons: Ryan Rikke of Savage, MN and Dan (and Susan) Rikke of Shakopee, MN; two grandsons: Dillon and Max Rikke; a sister, Norma Anderson of Montevideo, MN; a brother, LeRoy Koenen of Montevideo, MN; and a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters: Lillian Borg and Bernice Boike.
