Shirley Storlien, of Dawson, died Thursday morning, February 27, 2014 at the Johnson Memorial Care Center in Dawson, at the age of 86.
Funeral service will be held on Monday, March 3, 2014 at Johnson Memorial Home in Dawson at
11:00 A.M. with Pastor Kendall Stelter officiating. Interment will be in the Grace Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the care center.
Shirley Arlene Storlien was born June 20, 1927 in Lac qui Parle County to John and Hilda (Berg) Holte. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and lived in Watson and Dawson. She graduated from Dawson High school in 1945. On November 3, 1946 she was united in marriage to Lloyd Nash. After Lloyd’s passing in 1965, she met Milton Storlien and they were married July 24 of 1970. She worked as a clerk at the Red Owl Store until retiring in 1987. Shirley was active in the VFW auxiliary, Grace Lutheran Church and was involved with Ladies Aid and circle and also helped with the calling for funerals. Her favorite TV shows consisted of Golden Girls, Hallmark shows, Price is Right, Wheel of Fortune, Days of Our Lives, and Millionaire. She also enjoyed doing yard work, planting her garden and tending her flowers, watching the birds at the feeder, going to casinos, playing cards, traveling and being with family. She was quick to forgive and ready to help with grace that glued the family together. She truly was a beautiful and loving person, mother and grandmother. She will be greatly missed.
She is survived by two children: Virginia Leonard of Rockford, MN and Steve Nash of Dawson, MN; step-children: Mike (Janice) Storlien and Kay (Dale) Peterson; 7 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren; and 8 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; step father: Charles Jacobus; her husbands: Lloyd Nash in 1965 and Milton Storlien in 1996; two aunts: Cora and Bessie Berg; and a grandson, Scott Peterson.
