Signe Gustafson, of Appleton, died on Sunday, May 16, 1999 at the Appleton Hospital at the age of 86.
Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, May 19, 1999 at 10:30 at Bethel Evangelical Free Church in Appleton. Interment will be in the Appleton Cemetery.
Visitation will be Tuesday afternoon and evening and with the family Tuesday evening beginning at 7 PM at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo and for one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday. Anderson Funeral Home of Montevideo is in charge of funeral arrangements.
Signe (Bjorgan) Gustafson was born on January 6, 1913 in Richland Co., ND to Ingmar & Jorgina (Hagen) Bjorgan. She was confirmed at Normana Lutheran Church in Sheyenne Twp., ND (in Norwegian) and attended rural schools. In 1936 she moved to Gary, MN and worked at a country home near Ada, MN for a year as well as doing domestic work in Fargo, ND and Montevideo, MN. On April 9, 1944 she was united in marriage to Adolph Gustafson at Salem Lutheran Church in Montevideo. After living on Adolph’s home farm for 6 years, they moved to Edison Township, where they farmed and lived for 46 years. She was currently living in rural Appleton. She was a member of Bethel Evangelical Free Church in Appleton, had been a Sunday School teacher and a member of the Women’s Missionary Society. She was an R.S.V.P. volunteer at the Appleton Nursing Home for a number of years, a member of homemakers and was an avid quilter.
She is survived by three sons: Roger Gustafson and his wife Linda of Milan, MN, Ronald Gustafson and his wife Lois of Appleton, MN, and Tom Gustafson and his wife Cheryl of Hutchinson, MN; one daughter, Linda Sandbakken and her husband Harlan of Montevideo; one son-in-law, Duane Powell of Appleton, MN; 16 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one sister, Alpha Septon of Anoka, MN; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Adolph in 1996; one daughter, Susan Powell in 1977; two brothers: George and Thorwald Bjorgan; and one sister, Angeline Rekstad.
