Sigrid Petrina (Lund) Olson

Sigrid Olson, of Montevideo, passed away Sunday, August 18, 2024 at Brookside Senior Living in Montevideo at the age of 84.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 22, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church of Baxter in rural Montevideo.  Pastor Matt Danielson will officiate, and burial will be in Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery in Louriston Township, MN.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church.

Sigrid Petrina Lund was born on September 29, 1939, in Montevideo, MN, to Morris and Ella (Skrukkerud) Lund. Baptized and confirmed at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church of Baxter, she attended District 15 country school and graduated from Montevideo High School in 1957. After high school, she worked as a dental hygienist in Edina before marrying Robert Olson on April 6, 1963, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church of Baxter. The couple settled on Robert's family farm and had three children.

Sigrid was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church until its closure in 1965. She then became a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Havelock, where she contributed significantly as Sunday School Superintendent and participated in the ladies’ aid and Bible school. She was a 2020 Hall of Fame Honoree of the Chippewa County Historical Society. Sigrid had a passion for sewing, creating everything from prom and bridesmaid dresses to quilts and baby clothing.

She is survived by her daughters, Danelle (Troy) Groothuis of Maynard, MN, and Deborah (William) Donner of DeSmet, SD; son, Michael (Stephanie) Olson of Spicer, MN; grandchildren, Jessica (Michael) Korsmo, Kirsten (Joseph) Hutt, Nicholas (Jessica) Groothuis, Cassandra (Mason) Allinder, McKensi Donner, Robert Donner, and Makenna, Kaden, and Sidney Olson; great-grandchildren, Ethan, Abbigail, and Sophia Korsmo, Cohett, Keller, and Karina Hutt, and Syd and Maisee Allinder; and several extended family and friends.

Sigrid was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert; sister, Swanhild Nelson; and brother, Kenneth Lund.
