Simon Moen

Simon Moen, formerly of Milan and Appleton, MN, died on Saturday, January 14, 2006 at the Johnson Memorial Hospital in Dawson, MN at the age of 91.

Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, January 18, 2006 at 10:00 A.M. at Kviteseid Lutheran Church in Milan with Rev. Tom Opoien officiating.  Interment will be in the church cemetery.  Visitation will be Tuesday afternoon and evening, with the family from 5 - 7 PM and with a prayer service at 6:30 PM , all at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo.

Simon Moen was born on November 18, 1914 in Hantho Township of Lac qui Parle County, MN to Martin and Alma (Lund) Moen.  He was baptized at his home, confirmed at Lac qui Parle Lutheran Church and attended rural schools.    On September 13, 1942 he was united in marriage to Helen Finbraaten at the Madison Lutheran Parsonage.  They farmed in Hantho Township until moving into Milan in 1980.  They  lived at Apple Ridge Estate in Appleton for 3 years and have been residents of the Johnson Memorial Home in Dawson for the past 3 months.  They also spent over 25 years wintering in Mesa, AZ.  He was a member of Borgund Lutheran Church for many years and had been a member of Kviteseid Lutheran since 1980.  He was a member of the Farmers Union, NFO, and the Milan Elevator Board.  He enjoyed fishing, hunting, woodworking, traveling, camping, restoring old cars and tractors, gardening and planting trees.

He is survived by his wife, Helen; four children: Claire Moen and his wife Sylvia of Appleton, MN, Bruce Moen and his wife Darlene of Willmar, MN, Brad Moen of Appleton, MN and Colleen Rhodes of Clayton, NC; eleven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Muriel Moen of Madison, MN; as well as by numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters: Signora Kleven, Sylvia Borstad, Edna Halling and Mabel Femrite; and two brothers: Ingvald and Howard Moen.
