Sonya (Berg) Dahlin passed away Wednesday, January 11, 2023 at Avera Granite Falls Hospital at the age of 86.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, May 29, 2023 from 1:30PM to 3:30PM at Captains Bar and Grill on Lake Minnewaska. Captains Bar and Grill is located at 23583 N. Lake Shore Dr. in Glenwood, MN.
Sonya was born May 29, 1936 to Forest and Albertha (Boots) Johnson in Clarkfield, Minnesota. She was baptized on July 12, 1936 in Clarkfield and confirmed on May 7, 1950 at Augustana Lutheran Church in Clarkfield.
After graduating from Clarkfield High School on June 3, 1954 she went on to attend college at Gustavus Adolphus in St. Peter. When she completed college she traveled to California and there she met Howard Hubbard and they were married in 1961. To that union two sons were born, Steven and Eric. Later she met Earl Berg and they were married in 1976 and combined their families of Sonya’s two sons Steven and Eric and Earl’s children, Natalie, Brenda, Richard, Timothy and Scott. To their union one son was born, Carl. They all made their home on the farm southwest of Clarkfield.
Sonya worked as a Medical Lab Technologist at several hospitals during her career, Alexandria, Redwood Falls, Clarkfield, and Benson. She was also a loving wife, mother and homemaker on the farm making sure everyone was fed and things ran smoothly. She loved having everyone over at Christmas and the stockings were full and the food was plentiful! After retirement she opened a boutique and knitting business, Sonya’s Knitwits; did volunteer work for several organizations and the Minnewaska School District tutoring children. She was very gifted and talented with painting and artwork, which made Sonya’s Knitwits successful - you may have a hat, personalized Christmas stocking, a painted shirt or something warm knitted from her very own rabbit fur she had spun into yarn.
After Earl passed in 1998, she moved to her cabin on Lake Minnewaska. She loved her time at the lake cabin just sitting and enjoying the beautiful lake and watching the birds. She was very loving and compassionate and would give you the shirt off her back and her last dollar. Eventually she would move to assisted living at Valhalla in Clarkfield.
Sonya was preceded in death by her parents Forest and Albertha Johnson, and the fathers of her children, Howard Hubbard, and Earl Berg.
Sonya is survived by her three sons, eight grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren: Steven (Debra) Hubbard, Alexandria, MN; Jordan Hubbard, Hailey (Travis) Rolfsmeier, Beckett and Colt; Eric (Tina) Hubbard, Merrifield, MN; Erin (Chris) Johnson-Crosby; Eric, Kaidence, Lucian, Laiken, and Kingston; Jared (Amy) Hubbard; Summer, Bradley and Brecken; Afton (fiancee Tyler Templin) Hubbard, Hudson Hubbard; Carl (Meghan) Berg, Saint Joseph, MN; Alexander and Samantha; as well as many extended family members and friends.
The family would also like to thank the staff at Valhalla for their wonderful care of Sonya, it is very much appreciated!
