Spencer Mitlyng, of rural Montevideo, died on Sunday, February 29, 2004 at his home at the age of 92.
Memorial services will be conducted on Wednesday, March 3, 2004 at 1:00 PM at Our Saviours Lutheran Church of Baxter with Rev. Charlie Bunk officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be an hour prior to services at the church. Anderson Funeral Home of Montevideo is in charge of arrangements.
Spencer Donald Mitlyng was born on June 2, 1911 in Camp Release Township, of Lac Qui Parle County, MN to Lars and Marie (Gunderson) Mitlyng. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Petri Lutheran Church. Spencer graduated fro Olaf College. He served in the US Army Air Force in England during WW II. On June 2, 1946 he was united in marriage to Johanna Moseng at Baxter Lutheran Church. Following her death in 1988, he was united in marriage to Marie (Pierce) Sivertson December 29, 1990 in Sun City, AZ. Marie died in 2002. Spencer was an innovative farmer, woodworker, gardener, builder, and mechanic. He loved nature and traveling. He was a member of Baxter Lutheran Church where he held many offices. Spencer was a member of VFW Post 380, the DFL, and held township and county positions.
He is survived by a daughter, Selene Louise Mitlyng and her husband Ofer Kolton of Daly City, CA; one brother, Arnold Mitlyng of Montevideo, MN; one sister, Lydia Pokrass of Ashburn, VA; and numerous nieces, nephew and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his two wives: Johanna in 1988 and Marie in 2002; four brothers: Lloyd, George, Ernie, and Fritz; two sisters: Edna Frick and Gunda Carlson and a brother and a sister in infancy. m Montevideo High School in 1929 and completed one year at St.
