Stanley Andreas died Thursday, March 29, 2007 at the Chippewa County - Montevideo Hospital at the age of 76.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 3, 2007 at 1:30 P.M. at Our Saviors Lutheran Church. Rev. Donald S. McKee will officiate and interment will be at Sunset Memorial Cemetery.
Visitation will be held at the Anderson Funeral Home on Monday in the afternoon and evening with the family present from 5-7:00 P.M. and a prayer service at 7:00 P.M.
Stanley William Andreas was born in rural Watson, MN on July 24, 1930 the son of Edward and Gilda (Johnson) Andreas. He was baptized in August of 1930 and confirmed in June of 1944 at Zion Lutheran Church near Watson. He attended country school and graduated from eighth grade in 1944. While serving in the US Army from February of 1951 to February of 1953, he took the United States Armed Forces Institute course and earned his Montevideo High School diploma with the class of 1952. Stanley was united in marriage with Christine Haugen on September 8, 1957 at Kviteseid Lutheran Church in Milan. They became members of Our Saviors Lutheran Church where he was active in worship, ushering, church council, and several boards including the Senior Advisory Board. He joined the Montevideo Volunteer Emergency Service in 1957 and served for 29 years. While a full time member of the Volunteer Fire Department he served as secretary and also as secretary for the Fire Relief Association for 20 years. He also served as Emergency Service Dispatcher for 17 years and City Fire Marshall for 5 ½ years. During the time he worked for the city, he also had his own cabinet business. After retirement, he worked for Leenthrop Farm Mutual Insurance where he called upon policy holders and checked buildings for fire safety and general conditions. Stan was active in the Montevideo American Legion Post #59, having served as adjutant and clubroom bookkeeper. He was a 25 year member of the Sons of Norway where he held several offices. He was active as a volunteer and served on the board for the Chippewa County Historical Society. In 2005, he was elected to the society’s Hall of Fame. Since 2001, he had kept their obituary files up to date and had recorded 1354 obituaries for the Historical Society. His special time was with his two young grandsons, occasional coffee with the guys, and going for rides around the community. He liked to travel and had made two trips to Norway with his wife.
He is survived by his wife, Christine; one son, Jeffrey Andreas and his wife Lori of Montevideo; one daughter, Rev. Jennifer Andreas and her husband Rev. John Albertson of Cedar Rapids, IA; two grandsons: Leif Albertson and Easton Andreas; one step-grandson, Ty Stevens; one sister, Gladys Bacon of Bloomington, MN; 2 nieces that grew up in the Andreas home, Rita Alberghetti of Ramsey, MN and Nancy (and Ernie) Barnes of Tampa, FL as well as by numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents; one sister, Ophema in infancy; and five brothers: Elmo, Kenneth, Norman, Raymond, and Herbert Andreas.
