Stanley Folkestad

Stanley Folkestad, of Montevideo, died Wednesday, August 27, 2014 at the Chippewa County - Montevideo Hospital at the age of 87.

Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, September 2, 2014 at 1:00P.M. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Montevideo with Rev. Kathy Skoglund officiating.  Interment will be in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in rural Watson.

Visitation will be on Monday from 5 - 7 P.M. at the Anderson-TeBeest Funeral Home in Montevideo and 1 hour before the service at the church.

Stanley Vern Folkestad was born December 11, 1926 in Blue Grass in Wadena County, MN the son of Dewey and Minnie (Espelind) Folkestad.  He moved with his family to Montevideo and graduated from Montevideo High School in 1944.  Stan was united in marriage with Doris Ostlie on August 24, 1947 at Immanuel Lutheran.  He served in the US Navy during WW II.  After his discharge, he returned to work with his father at the furniture store.  He continued to stay active at the furniture store.  He also fixed clocks and sewing machines.  Stan was always active and adventurous.  He was a ski jumper, pilot, and bow hunter, and also enjoyed canoeing, bicycling, camping, and motorcycling.  He was a member of the archery club and  Lions Club.

He is survived by five children: Sharon (and Bob) Black of Minnetonka, MN, LuAnn (and Mike) Gesell of Alexandria, MN, Duane (and Colleen) Folkestad of Montevideo, MN, Gwen (and Mike) Grunke of Crystal, MN, and Sue (and Gary) Heikes of Montevideo, MN; fourteen grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; two sisters: June (Claus) Peterson of Montevideo, MN and Lorraine Widme of Pillager, MN; a half brother, Mark Folkestad of Eagan, MN; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Doris in 2010; a daughter, Jane in 2013; a sister, Evelyn Ostlie; and two brothers: Merald and Dewey Folkestad.
