Sylvia Nygaard, 86, died December 12, 1994 at Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 15 at 10:30 A.M. at Saron Lutheran Church. Rev. Wayne Mensing will officiate and interment will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be held Wednesday afternoon and evening and with the family from 7-8:00 P.M. at the Anderson Funeral Home. There will be visitation at the church for one hour before services on Thursday.
Gerda Sylvia Nygaard was born January 11, 1908 in Chippewa County the daughter of Thomas and Mathilda (Nelson) Strand. She attended rural school, graduated from Montevideo High School in 1927, and completed Nurses Training in Faribault, MN. Sylvia worked as a Registered Nurse at Midway Hospital in St. Paul. She was united in marriage with Harold Nygaard May 8, 1943 in St. Paul. They moved to a farm near Wegdahl in November of 1945 and she worked at the Montevideo Hospital. Harold died December 28, 1959. Sylvia continued to live on the farm until moving into Montevideo in the early 80's and later to Luther Haven in September of 1992.
She is survived by one daughter, Elaine Nygaard of New Hope, MN; one son, Ron Nygaard of Montevideo, MN; two grandsons: Benjamin and Christopher; one sister, Margaret and her husband Clarence Westphal of Viroqua, WI; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Harold; three brothers: Noel, Alvin, and Olaf; two sisters: Maude Strand and Stella in infancy; and five half-brothers: Elmer, Lambert, Raymond, Ted, and Arthur Strand.
