Thelma Lovehaug, of Montevideo, died on Wednesday, May 19, 2010 at the Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo at the age of 89. Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, May 24, 2010 at 1:30 P.M. at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Montevideo with Rev. Marie Eckberg officiating. Interment will be in Our Saviours Lutheran Cemetery of Baxter. Visitation will be Sunday afternoon and evening with the family present from 5 - 7 P.M. at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo. Thelma Levern (Spande) Lovehaug was born on January 21, 1921 in Lac qui Parle County, MN to Cyrus and Annie (Nelson) Spande. She was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Boyd and attended rural schools. She worked at Swift and Co. in Montevideo for a short time. On August 29, 1944, she was united in marriage to Elliot Strand in South Dakota. They lived and farmed in rural Boyd, MN and were blessed with four sons: Larry, Steve, Gary and Bruce. Following Elliot's death in 1968, she was united in marriage to Rueben Lovehaug on January 25, 1974. They lived and farmed near Milan, MN for five years before retiring and moving to Montevideo in 1979. Rueben died in 1992. She continued living in her home in Montevideo until entering the Luther Haven Nursing Home a short time ago. Over the years, she was a member of and active women's group member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church of Baxter, Kviteseid Lutheran Church in Milan and Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Montevideo. She enjoyed baking, cooking, cross stitch, embroidery and bowling, having spent 20 years bowling in the same bowling league. She had a green thumb and especially enjoyed growing her favorite flowers, Impatiens. Thelma loved her family and friends dearly and never let anyone leave without having lunch which would include her homemade Kringla, homemade doughnuts and dried beef sandwiches. She is survived by her four sons: Larry (and Carol) Strand of Boyd, MN; Steven (and Cathy) Strand of Montevideo, MN; Gary (and Brenda) Strand of Boyd, MN and Bruce (and Jeanette) Strand of Boyd, MN; fifteen grandchildren; twenty-seven great-grandchildren; as well as by a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her two husbands, Elliot Strand in 1968 and Rueben Lovehaug in 1992; two brothers: Irvin and Reber Spande and by two sisters: Verna Metlyng and Wanda Bjerk.
