Theola Hofseth, of Dawson, died Saturday, January 11, 2014 at the Johnson Memorial Home in Dawson at the age of 85.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 14, 2014 at 1:30 PM at Lac qui Parle Lutheran Church. Rev. Bruce Bringle will officiate and interment will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Monday, January 13 at the Hanson & Dahl Funeral Home in Dawson from 5-7:00 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM and also at the church for one hour before services.
Theola Harriett (Mattson) Hofseth was born February 5, 1928 in Hamlin Township of Lac qui Parle County, MN the daughter of Harold and Lena (Olson) Mattson. They moved to Riverside Township and later to Cerro Gordo Township. Theola attended rural school in District 14 and 34 and graduated from Dawson High School in 1946. She worked at the switch board of the local telephone company before going to nurses training in Chicago. Theola worked as a nurse at the Dawson Hospital. She was united in marriage with Conrad Hofseth June 26, 1949 at Trinity Lutheran CHurch in Dawson. Conrad worked for the State of MN Livestock Weighing Dept. and they lived in several communities including: South St. Paul, Montevideo, Luverne, Lyle, Austin, and Worthington before returning to Dawson in 1985. They adopted three children: James in 1955, Curtis in 1959, and Shari Jo in 1962. Theola was active at Lac qui Parle Lutheran Church.
She is survived by her husband, Conrad; two sons: James and Curtis both of Dawson; five grandchildren: Joshua Hofseth, Hannah Hofseth, Jessica Brouwer, Jamie Dietz, and DJ Brouwer; eight great-grandchildren: Taylor Smith, Zachary Smith, Jordan Smith, Gavin Brouwer, Lexi Dietz, Elliot Dietz, Kyler Dietz, and Ryan Brouwer; a son-in-law, Daryl Brouwer of Milan; a brother, Ordean (Joan) Mattson of Chandler, AZ; four sisters: Betty (Neil) Anderson of Manhattan, KS, Martha Welch of San Carols, CA, Esther Ann Brown of Oconomowoc, WI, and Josephine Arneson of Ft. Pierre, SD; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her daughter, Shari Jo Brouwer in 2010; and a sister, Rita Jean.
