Thomas Benson

Thomas Benson of Crystal, MN died on Saturday, August 10, 2019 at his home at the age of 70.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 15, 2019 at 1:30 PM at Big Bend Lutheran Church with Vicar Gwen Evens officiating.  Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday.

Thomas was born on January 17, 1949 in Montevideo, MN To Orville and Gladys (Swingseth) Benson.  He graduated from Milan High School in 1967 and then went on to Alexandria Vocational School for machinist work.  He worked for a year at FMC and then started working in the construction business as a laborer until he retired.

Tom was involved in the Laborer’s Local #563.  He belonged to a number of groups such as, Get-Out-Get Social Club and other singles groups.  He loved to hike, bike and canoe.  He was always washing and waxing vehicles.  Tom took a number of swing dancing classes and was good at it.  He traveled to Thailand, Glacier Park, and Seattle to visit family, which he loved.  He enjoyed stopping and talking to his neighbors all the time as he loved his neighborhood and the Crystal community.

Tom is survived by his mother, Gladys Benson; sister, Sandra (Steve) Pipp; niece, Sara (Andy) Brooks and special friend, Cathy Lanman.

He was preceded in death by his father, Orville Benson.
