Thora Lanning, of Maynard, died on Wednesday, September 25, 2002 at the Chippewa Co - Montevideo Hospital at the age of 89.
Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, September 30, 2002 at 10:30 A.M. at the Maynard Lutheran Church with Rev. Mary Hovland officiating. Interment will be in the Terrace Lawn Memory Gardens in rural Montevideo. Visitation will be Sunday afternoon and evening and with the family from 6 - 7:30 PM at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo.
Thora Elizabeth (Benson) Lanning was born on July 15, 1913 in Twin Valley, MN to Adolph and Sena (Olson) Benson. She was baptized in Twin Valley and confirmed after her family moved to Sacred Heart, MN. She attended rural schools near Sacred Heart. On November 23, 1935 she was united in marriage to Sandy Lanning in Sacred Heart. Following their marriage they moved to a farm 2 mi. west of Maynard, where she lived until entering the Clara City Care Center in July of 2002. She was a long time member of Maynard Lutheran Church and was active in Ladies Aid, Bible Study, and quilting. She enjoyed crafts, embroidery, and her family and grandchildren.
She is survived by a daughter, Geraldine Schuler and her husband Ken of Cottage Grove, MN; 2 sons, Mervin Lanning and his special friend Patricia Wanner of New London, MN and Kenneth Lanning and his wife Donna of Maynard; 5 grandchildren - Bryan Schuler; Jay Schuler; Stacey Eriksson; Tami Klucas; and Chad Lanning; 3 great grandchildren - Brandon Carrier; Samuel Klucas and Aryana Lanning; sisters, Anna Vechell and Esther Norem of Granite Falls, MN and Myrtle Barnhart of Tacoma, WA; as well as by a number of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Sandy in 1988, 7 brothers - Ted, Tim, Sig, Albert, Bennie, Otto, and Silas Benson and by a sister, Johanna Benson.
