Thorbjorn “Tom” Anderson, of Milan, died on Friday, January 2, 2004 at the Chippewa County - Montevideo Hospital at the age of 66.
Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, January 6, 2004 at 11:00 AM at Kviteseid Lutheran Church in Milan with Rev. Trevor Bailey officiating. Interment will be in the Kviteseid Lutheran Milan Methodist Cemetery.
Visitation will be Monday afternoon and evening, with the family from 5 - 7 PM and with a prayer service at 7 PM at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo.
Thorbjorn “Tom” Harold Anderson was born on July 13, 1937 in Milan, MN to Stanley R. and Judith (Rorstad) Anderson. He was baptized and confirmed at Kviteseid Lutheran Church and graduated from Milan High School in 1955. In 1959 he graduated from St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN, where he was a member of the varsity football and basketball teams. On June 10, 1957 he was united in marriage to Elaine Borstad at Lac Qui Parle Lutheran Church in rural Dawson, MN. They lived in Northfield, Litchfield, Rochester, Golden Valley and Ortonville where he was engaged in banking. He was instrumental in establishing computers in the banking industry. He was part-owner of Club 7-75 in 1985 and in 1988 he moved to Milan, MN, where he also farmed with his son. He retired about 4 years ago. He was involved in churches in every community he lived and was currently a member of Kviteseid Lutheran Church. He was involved in Ducks Unlimited, Kiwanis, Ortonville Golf Board, 21 Club, Financial Institution Services Incorporated and Chord-Ayres. He enjoyed gardening, golfing, hunting, fishing, all puzzles, reading, birding, and most of all being with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Elaine; one son, James Anderson and his wife Paulette of Milan; two daughters: Julie Sammon and her husband Jay of Odessa, MN and Elizabeth Swanson and her husband Tim of Ortonville, MN; ten grandchildren: Isaac, Peter and Tristan Anderson, Christopher and Nicole Doney, Riley, Emily and Evan Sammon, and Austin and Lauren Swanson; an AFS daughter, Jackie Meyer and her husband Gerry of Madison, AL; three sisters: Solveig Halbakken and her husband Erling of Fergus Falls, MN, Judith Stoutland of Northfield, MN and Rachel Knudsen and her husband John of Moscow, ID; as well as by a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother, James Rolf.
