Funeral service was at 2:30PM, Saturday, February 21, at Grace Lutheran Church in Dawson with Pastor Kendall Stelter and Pastor Lori Wold officiating; nephew, Mark Bauler gave personal reflections of Thornie and read a letter to the family from his sister; grandson, Brent Holten read the scripture lessons Psalm 121 and John 11:25-26; organist, Chris Lehne accompanied the singing of "Be Thou My Vision" and "How Great Thou Art" and vocalist, Jon Wager singing "Amazing Grace" and "On Eagle's Wings". His eight grandchildren were casketbearers and burial was in Grace Lutheran Cemetery. Thornie Julian Lee was born on February 16, 1923, to Alfred and Hilda (Haakenson) Lee in Dawson. Thornie was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Dawson. He attended District 26 country school in rural Dawson, while helping his father on the farm. Thornie was united in marriage to Sylvia Jane Ostlie on November 6, 1949, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in rural Watson. Together, they raised four children and farmed in the rural Dawson area. In addition to farming and spending time with his family, Thornie enjoyed playing fast pitch softball and bowling. He also served on the School Board of District 4 and for many years served on the Tri-County Soybean Association Board. Thornie entered the Johnson Memorial Home on November 17, 2008, and died on the morning of February 17, 2009, one day after his 86th birthday party. Thornie is survived by his wife of 59 years, Sylvia; children: Diane (Cort) Holten of Minneapolis, David (Janice) Lee and Gary (Debra) Lee of Dawson and Carol (Michael) Nault of Apple Valley; 8 grandchildren: Brent and Ryan Holten, Darin and Angela Lee, Kelsey and Brandon Lee and Tyler and Rachel Nault; brothers: Arbie (Bonnie) Lee of Madison and Floyd (Dora) Lee of Montevideo; sisters: Heloise Ronning of Farmington and Alice Lanoue of Lakeville; sisters-in-law, Margie Lee and Doris (Stan) Folkestad of Montevideo; brothers-in-law, Stan Kostad of Dawson and Earl (Lillian) Ostlie and Clarence (Evie) Ostlie of Montevideo; numerous nieces and nephews, other family and friends. Preceding him in death were his parents; brother, Elton Lee; sisters: Leone Kostad and Florence Bauler; brothers-in-law: Glen Ronning, Donald Bauler, James Lanoue, Floyd Ostlie and Roy Ostlie; sister-in-law, Alice Ostlie; and one niece and two nephews. Thornie was a loving husband (mann), dad (far) and grandpa (bestefar) of strong Norwegian descent.
