Truman Gordon Melom was born December 16, 1915, in rural Dawson to Halvor and Hannah (Erickson) Melom. He was baptized and confirmed at Riverside Lutheran Church and attended country school in District 18 in Riverside Township.
Truman was united in marriage to Marvel Olson on December 16, 1939, at the residence of Dr. I.O. Melom in Montevideo. To this union, 4 children were born. He farmed in rural Boyd, worked in a butcher shop in Wegdahl, and then farmed in the Dawson area until his retirement in 1972, when they moved into Dawson. Because of his health, on July 24, 1998, they moved to Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo where he remained until his death on Tuesday, August 4, at the age of 82 years, 7 months, and 18 days.
He is survived by his wife, Marvel; children: Howard Melom of Albert Lea, MN, Diane Johnson and husband, Jerry, of Dallas, TX, and Vicki Eisenlohr and husband, Larry, of Willmar; 6 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; 3 sisters: Naomi Baker of WA, Verna Larson of Dawson, and Doris Twite and husband Al of Dawson; and other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Orlin; brother, Millard Melom; and sister, Hattie Folz.
