Urban Just, of Dawson, died on Friday, November 29, 2013, at the Johnson Memorial Care Center in Dawson, MN at the age of 92.
Funeral service will be held Monday, December 2, 2013 at 10:30 AM at St. Johns Lutheran Church of rural Boyd with Pastor Allen Lonnquist officiating. Interment will be in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Monday for one hour before the services at the church. Arrangements are with Hanson & Dahl Funeral Home in Dawson.
Urban Rufus Just was born January 6, 1921 in Yellow Medicine County, MM the son of Carl and Clara (Hartfiel) Just. They moved to a farm near Boyd where he attended rural school. Urban served in the US Army in Japan and Korea. He guarded German prisoners of war. After his discharge, he began his career in farming. On September 21, 1947, Urban was united in marriage to Mildred Lyngen at the Zion Lutheran Church, Boyd by Rev. Louis Rosin. Two children: Carolyn and Kenneth, were born to this union. They lived in rural Boyd and Clarkfield and moved to Granite Falls in 1981, and to Dawson in 2003. Urban became a child of God through Baptism on January 30, 1921, by Pastor Bernhard Lutmann. He was baptized at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Tyro Township, (rural Boyd) MN. There he was also confirmed in the teachings of the Christian faith on May 20, 1934, by Pastor L.C. Rosin. He was active in the church and he enjoyed singing in the choir. Urban served as the clerk for Omro Township for 10 years and president of the Yellow Medicine County Township Officers Association for 4 years. He earned his GED at the age of 65. He enjoyed fishing and hunting. Urban also enjoyed making furniture and doing crossword puzzles.
He is survived by a daughter, Carolyn (Stan) Nelson of Dawson; 5 grandchildren: Laralyn (Duane) Skorczewski, Joseph Nelson, Melanie (Jamie) Robertson, Kristalyn Hyche, and Isaac Nelson; 3 great-grandchildren: Ashley and Haley Skorczewski and Aaron Hyche; one brother, Carl Just of Sunburg; sisters: Evelyn Jurgenson of Eugene, OR and Anita (Hugh) VanVoorst of Union Hill, IL; sisters-in-law: Della Just of Clarkfield and Adele Just of Seattle, WA; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death is his parents; his wife, Mildred on February 7, 2009; his son, Ken on December 9, 1972; brothers, Gerald and Delbert; sisters: Angeline (Jack) Stice, Rebecca (William) Luther, Elaine (Harvey) Nelson and baby sister Janice; brother-in-law: Robert Jurgenson; and sister-in-law: Glenda Just.
