Valerie Stratmoen, of Dawson, died on Sunday, August 3, 2014 at the Johnson Memorial Home in Dawson at the age of 54.
Memorial Services will be held on Thursday August 7, 2014 at 1:30 P.M. at Grace Lutheran Church in Dawson with Rev. Kendall Stelter officiating.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 5 - 7 P.M. with a prayer service at 6:30 P.M. at the Hanson & Dahl Funeral Home in Dawson.
Valerie Jeanette (Tollakson) Stratmoen was born on October 8, 1959 in Dawson, MN to Kenneth and Darlyne (Hansen) Tollakson. She was baptized and confirmed at Nicolai Lutheran Church in Canby and graduated from Canby High School in 1978. She went to school in St. Cloud, completed training at Lakeland Medical and worked at Abbot-Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis. On September 8, 1990 she was united in marriage to DuWayne Stratmoen at Nicolai Lutheran Church in Canby. They made their home in Montevideo and she worked as a Lab Tech at the Chippewa County - Montevideo Hospital. In 1997 they moved to a farm east of Dawson. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, taught Sunday School and served on the Youth and Education Boards. She was also a Cub Scout Leader. She enjoyed going on walks, scrapbooking, photography, vacations with her family, going to the lake and going to her children’s school and sporting events.
She is survived by her husband, DuWayne; four children: Megan, Matthew, Zachary and Michaela Stratmoen; her parents, Kenny and Darlyne Tollakson of Canby; two brothers: James Tollakson of Canby and Brad (Becki) Tollakson of Montevideo; a mother-in-law, Beverly Stratmoen of Dawson and by numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father-in-law, Roger Stratmoen and by grandparents, Andrew and Clara Hansen and James and Marie Tollakson.
