ValJean Schei Wallace, of Montevideo, died on Wednesday, January 8, 2003 at the Luther Haven Nursing Home at the age of 72.
Funeral services were conducted on Sunday, January 12, 2003 at 2:30 PM at Trinity Lutheran Church in Montevideo with Rev. Michael Briggs officiating. Burial was in the Sunset Memorial Cemetery.
Visitation will be Saturday afternoon and evening with a prayer service at 7 PM at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo.
ValJean Marilyn (Haugerud) Schei Wallace was born on November 25, 1930 in Westbank Township of Swift County, MN to James and Mabel (Anderson) Haugerud. She was baptized and confirmed at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Montevideo, attended Montevideo Public Schools and graduated from Montevideo High School in 1948. On August 1, 1948 she was united in marriage to Paul Schei at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Montevideo. Following his death in 1978, she was later united in marriage to Archie Wallace on October 9, 1988 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Montevideo. She was a lifelong resident of Montevideo and worked as a secretary at Trinity Lutheran Church for about 10 years and at the Veterans Service Office for 19 years prior to retiring. She was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church, serving as a Bethel Bible Series teacher, Sunday School teacher and Superintendent, Ladies Aid member and a circle chairperson. Her family was an important part of her life and she also enjoyed gardening, canning and playing piano. She has been a resident at the Luther Haven Nursing Home for the past 7 months.
She is survived by her husband, Archie; three daughters: Barbara Smith and her husband Larry of Montevideo, Mary Hammer and her husband Merle of Granite Falls, and Sue Dyshaw and her husband Brad of Montevideo; 13 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; and two sisters: Janet Cushman of Montevideo and Glennis Dunn of Crystal Beach, TX.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Paul Schei in 1978; and two brothers: Chet and Glen Haugerud.
