Veneta Aarseth died on Tuesday, August 12, 1997 at the Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo at the age of 95.
Funeral services were conducted on Friday, August 15, 1997 at 10:00 A.M. at First Congregational Church in Montevideo with Rev. Jean Boese officiating. Burial was in the Sunset Memorial Cemetery.
Veneta (Morehead) Aarseth was born on May 23, 1902 in LeMars, Iowa to Lampton and Telitha (Stinton) Morehead. At the age of 13 she moved with her family to Morris, MN. She graduated from Alberta High School in 1919 and from St. Cloud State Teachers College in 1924. She was an elementary school teacher for 43 years, teaching school for 2 years in Hancock, MN, 10 years in Watson, MN and for 29 years in Montevideo, MN, before retiring in 1967. She was united in marriage to Ernest Aarseth on October 24, 1946 in Forest Lake, MN and they farmed for 16 years before he retired. She was an active member of First Congregational United Church of Christ in Montevideo since 1927, singing in the choir for 35 years and serving as president and secretary of the Women's Fellowship. She was a member of the Minnesota Teacher's Association and was a teacher of the year in Chippewa Co. She was a charter member and first president of Business and Professional Women in Montevideo. She served as secretary of the board for the local Senior Citizens Organization, was a member of the Minnesota Valley Senior Federation, a member of AARP and a member of the American Legion Auxillary. She entered the Luther Haven Nursing home in 1995.
Veneta is survived by two sisters-in-law - Bernice Morehead of Forest Lake, MN and Sylvia Bracker of Glendale, AZ; special nieces - Inez Siegmund and Betty Deich and their families; special nephews - Robert Morehead, Billy Morehead, and Lee Bracker and their families; as well as by grand nieces and nephews and great grand nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; by her husband Ernest in 1980; by brothers - Cloyde and his wife Laura and Lyle Morehead; and by a nephew - D.J.Morehead.
