Venoie Jacobs

Venoie Jacobs, Big Bend died on Sunday, January 6, 2019 at her home at the age of 84.

Memorial services will be held on Friday, January 11, 2019 at 10:30 AM at Big Bend Lutheran Church.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.

Venoie Ona Jacobs was born on July 10, 1934 in Montevideo to Elmer and Esther (Raffelson) Paulson.  She was baptized on August 19, 1934 and confirmed on June 27, 1948 at Jevnager Lutheran Church.  She attended school in Montevideo.   On April 12, 1952 Venoie was united in marriage to Lawrence Jacobs, Jr. in Webster, South Dakota.  They lived all their married life in the Big Bend area and raised four children: Tom, Lisa, Lori and Lois.

Venoie’s faith was a very big part of her life and she was a member of Big Bend Lutheran Church where she participated in circle and quilting.   As a wife and homemaker she was a master in the kitchen, cooking and baking many treats for her family.  She spent time making all the traditional Norwegian foods such as lefse and potato klub.  When she was not cooking and baking she enjoyed making quilts and crocheting afghans for family.  Venoie was an avid birdwatcher and fisherman.  She loved taking family vacations to the lake where she enjoyed fishing with her children and grandchildren.  Children and grandchildren have fond memories of the open door policy at grandma and grandpa’s house and where the cookie jar was always full.

Venoie is survived by her husband of 66 years, Lawrence Jacobs, Jr.; children: Tom Jacobs, Big Bend, Lisa (Lyle) Larson, Big Bend, Lori (Jerry) Brustuen, Lake Lillian, Lois (Bob) Arnold, Appleton,; 9 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; sisters: Ina Mae Johnson, Montevideo, Nancy Undlin, Golden Valley; as well as extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Elwood Paulson, grandson: Paul Larson; and father and mother-in-law: Lawrence Sr. and Eunice Jacobs; brother-in-laws: Merle Johnson and Byron Undlin.
