Vera Geraldine (Knutson) Mitlyng

Vera (Johnson) Mitlyng, of Montevideo, died on Sunday, December 7, 2003 at the University of Minnesota Hospitals at the age of 74.

Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, December 10, 2003 at 1:30 PM at Our Saviours Lutheran Church of Baxter with Rev. Charlie Bunk officiating. Interment will be in the Sunset Memorial Cemetery.

Visitation will be Tuesday afternoon and evening with a prayer service at 6:30 PM at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo.

Vera Geraldine Johnson Mitlyng was born on December 21, 1928 in Langdon, ND to Julius and Ida (Tweeter) Knutson.  She was baptized on December 21, 1928 in Nekonia, ND.  She moved with her family to the Montevideo, MN area at the age of 5 and was confirmed on June 4, 1944 at Strombeck Lutheran Church of rural, Montevideo.  She graduated from Montevideo High School in 1947.  On November 20, 1952 she was united in marriage to Delos Johnson. They lived and farmed NE of Montevideo where she was a member of Jevnaker Lutheran Church and its ladies aid.  Following Delos’ death in 1979, she was united in marriage to Arnold Mitlyng on March 11, 1989.  They lived SW of Montevideo and were members of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church of Baxter.  She enjoyed sewing, homemaking, gardening and plants.

Vera is survived by her husband, Arnold; two daughters: Debra Blom and her husband Charles and Lou Ann Montgomery and her husband Terry, both of Montevideo; six grandchildren: Jason, Cole and Jordan Montgomery, Melissa Schaaf and her husband Shane, Aaron Blom and his fiance Amanda and Alicia Blom; three great-grandchildren: Ashley and Kyley Schaaf and Gage Blom; one brother, Robert Knutson of Montevideo; one sister: Ella Gulden of Round Lake, MN; as well as by a number of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Delos Johnson on March 23, 1979; two brothers: Julian and Lyle Knutson; and four sisters: Ruby Lee, Fern Kitchin, Maxine Griesmeyer and Bernice Knutson.
