Verna Emogene (Erickson) Norby

Verna Norby, of Montevideo, died on Tuesday, July 11, 2006 at the Chippewa Co - Montevideo Hospital at the age of 88.

Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, July 13, 2006 at 10:30 AM at Immanuel Lutheran Church in rural Watson with Rev. Larry Olson officiating.  Interment will be in the church cemetery.

Verna Emogene (Erickson) Norby was born October 9, 1917 at Big Bend Township, Chippewa County, MN the daughter of Edward and Agnes (Angrimson) Erickson.  She was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church.  Verna attended rural school in District #11 and graduated from Milan High School in 1936.  She was united in marriage with Gordon Norby March 7, 1946 at the Watson Lutheran Parsonage.  They farmed in Tunsburg Township until moving into Montevideo in 1976.  She worked for a short time at the Carlson Doll Factory.  Verna was a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church where she was a Sunday School teacher and active in the WELCA.  She enjoyed her pets and spending time with her family.

She is survived by one brother, Albert “Bill” Erickson of Montevideo, MN; four sisters: Ruth Torgerson of Big Stone City, SD, Arlene Poppe of Montevideo, MN, Leona Frank of Willmar, MN and Loretta (Arne) Lange of Montevideo, MN; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Gordon in 1992; and three brothers-in-law: Larry Frank, Lee Poppe, and Art Torgerson.
