Verna Violet (Curtis) Potter

Montevideo

Verna Potter, of Montevideo, died on Friday, January 26, 2001 at the Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo at the age of 90.

Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, January 30, 2001 at 11:00 AM at the First Congregational Church in Montevideo with Rev. Jean Boese officiating.  Burial will be in the Terrace Lawn Memory Gardens.

Visitation will be Monday afternoon and evening and with the family from 5 - 7 PM at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo.

Verna Violet (Curtis) Potter was born on April 20, 1910 in Spencer, IA to Arthur and Hazel (Cook) Curtis.  She grew up in Iowa and as a young girl moved with her family to the Maynard, Mn area. She attended rural schools and high school there.  On April 28, 1928 she was united in marriage to Elmer Potter in the Methodist Church in Montevideo  They lived in the Granite Falls, Maynard and Bird Island areas before settling in Montevideo.  She was currently a resident of the Luther Haven Nursing Home.  She worked at The Maus Store and Rich’s U Save as a grocery store clerk before retiring.  She was a member of the First Congregational Church in Montevideo and had served as it’s Treasurer.  In her younger years her hobbies included vegetable and flower gardening, playing cards and Scrabble and loved to bake and cook.  One of her greatest joys was preparing a big meal for her family.

She is survived by daughters - Phyllis Neumann and her husband Jack of Mission, TX and Sharon Saice of Fridley, MN; by sons - Elmer “Bud” Potter and his wife Emy of Savage, MN and Ronald Potter and his wife Pat of Montevideo; a daughter-in-law - Kathy Potter of Chetek, WI; 15 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; sisters - Dorothy Harbour of Montevideo and Inez Tallard of Portland, OR as well as by a number of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Elmer in 1982; a son - James Potter; a grandson - Michael Neumann and granddaughter - Rhonda Potter; a brother - Arthur Curtis, 2 sisters - Madge Curtis and Adelaide Hegnaure and a son-in-law - Bud Saice.
