Verna (Marienau) Spencer

April 6, 1920 — February 3, 1994

Verna Spencer, 73, of Maple Plain and formerly of Montevideo, died February 3, 1994 at Haven Homes of  Maple Plain.

Funeral services will be held Monday, February 7 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Paul Lutheran Church.  Rev. Roger Rekstad will officiate and interment will be at Terrace Lawn Memory Gardens.

Visitation will be held Sunday afternoon and evening and at the church for one hour before services.

Verna Irene Marienau was born April 6, 1920 at Spencer, IA the daughter of Albert and Agnes (Straight) Marienau.  She was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Terril, IA.  Verna graduated from High School in Terril in 1938.  She was united in marriage with Charles Spencer October 8, 1938 at Spencer, IA.  They made their home near Terril, IA before moving to a farm near Montevideo in 1945.  In 1952 they moved to a farm near Maynard and in 1961 they moved to Long Lake, MN.  Verna worked at the Harts Cafe in Wayzata until the retired and moved to Pine River, MN in 1976.  They returned to Montevideo in 1981 and Charles died January 13, 1991.  Verna moved to Maple Plain in October of 1993.

She is survived by one son, Richard and his wife Judy of Eden Prairie, MN; five daughters: Carol Swanson and her husband Robert of Cottage Grove, MN, Sharon Kibler and her husband Mearl of Montevideo, MN, Marlene Schraufnagel and her husband Hank of Mayville, WI, Donna Ritter and her husband Duane of Rockford, MN, and Jackie Aune and her husband Orrin of Anchorage, AK; 17 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one brother, Arlo Marienau and his wife Lolly of Montevideo, MN; and one sister, Ila Aalesch of Gretinger, IA.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Charles; and her brother, Clifford Marienau.
