Verna (Dalen) Struxness

Verna Struxness, of Milan, died on Sunday, December 23, 2001 at the Madison Lutheran Home at the age of 92.

Funeral services were conducted on Thursday, December 27, 2001 at 10:30 AM at the Kviteseid Lutheran Church in Milan with Rev. Wayne Anderson officiating.  Burial was in the church cemetery.

Verna Struxness was born on March 22, 1909 in Chippewa County, MN to Lars and Johanna (Holte) Dalen.  She was baptized on April 22, 1909 by Rev. R.R. Syrdal and confirmed in Norwegian on December 2, 1923 by Rev. Thomas Rorstad.  She graduated from Milan High School in 1927 and from St. Olaf College in 1931.  She taught secondary education in Tyler, MN for four years.  On May 7, 1937 she was united in marriage to Oscar Struxness at Verna’s childhood home.  They farmed until 1969, when they moved into Milan.  She was an active member of Kviteseid Lutheran Church and the Milan Senior Citizens.

She is survived by one daughter, Janet Hokanson and her husband George of Austin, MN; one son, Donald Struxness and his wife Beverly of Milan, MN; 5 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Selma Boraas of Madison, MN; a sister and brother-in-law, Alma and Julian Ellingson of Watson, MN; as well as by numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Oscar; six brothers and two sisters.
