Vernal Nokleby, of Montevideo, died on Saturday, August 4, 2012 at the Chippewa Co-Montevideo Hospital at the age of 89. Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, August 8, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. at Jevnaker Lutheran Church with Rev. Marie Eckberg officiating. Interment will be in Hillside Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday afternoon and evening with the family present from 5 - 7 P.M. and with a prayer service at 6:30 P.M. at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo. Vernal Alden Nokleby was born on December 23, 1922 in Mandt Township of Chippewa Co., MN to Oscar and Emma (Skogrand) Nokleby. He was baptized and confirmed at Jevnaker Lutheran Church. He attended rural school in District #31 and graduated from Milan High School in 1940. On August 31, 1944 he was united in marriage to Rose Mary Payne in DeGraff, MN. They lived and farmed in Mandt Township until he retired in 1976. In 1995 they moved into Montevideo and moved to Brookside Manor about a year ago. He was a life-long member of Jevnaker Lutheran Church and was active as a 4-H member and leader. He enjoyed fishing, camping, traveling, playing darts, dancing, making lefse and especially enjoyed eating and appreciating good food. He is survived by his wife Rose Mary; three children: Dennis Nokleby (and Nicole Delhaye) of Belgium; Lois Nokleby of Hampton, MN; and Delos Nokleby (and Frannie Walsh) of Mesa, AZ; three grandchildren: Liv Kittelson (and Craig Emery), Erik Kittelson and Kjersti Kittelson; a great granddaughter, Marilla Emery; a brother, Arnold (and Eileen) Nokleby of Montevideo; as well as by several favorite nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers: Omer, Ernest, Minfred and Juleen Nokleby.
