Verona Augusta (Timm) Sachariason

Verona Sachariason, of Montevideo, MN, passed away on Thursday, May 24, 2018, at Luther Haven at the age of 99.

Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, May 29, 2018, at 10:30AM at Saron Lutheran Church with Pastor Matt Danielson officiating. Internment will be in the Saron Church Cemetery.

Visitation with the family will be held on Monday, May 28, 2018 from 5 - 7 PM with a prayer service at 6:45 PM at Anderson - TeBeest Funeral Home in Montevideo. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday.

Verona Augusta (Timm) Sachariason was born on September 7, 1918, at home in Posen Township, Yellow Medicine County, MN to Julius and Augusta (Todt) Timm. She was baptized at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Posen Township on September 29, 1918 and confirmed on April 9, 1933. She attended elementary school in Posen rural school and at Wood Lake Elementary School, Wood Lake, MN. She graduated from Wood Lake High School in 1936. Verona attended Mankato State Teacher’s College, receiving the two year degree in education, after which, she taught rural school in Chippewa County near Montevideo, MN for four years.

She taught school at District 74 in Chippewa County, Montevideo, MN where she met Orton Sachariason. They were married on September 5, 1942 and celebrated 66 years together. They lived on their Leenthrop Township farm near Montevideo and raised six children. In 1970, they moved to a home in Montevideo, and in 2007, they moved to independent living at Granite Ridge Place in Granite Falls, MN.

Verona was a leader in WELCA of Saron Lutheran Church and has served numerous community-oriented activities. Verona was active as a leader in the Wegdahl Willing Workers 4-H Club, was president of the Band Mothers, President of the Saron Ladies Aid, leader of the TOPS Club, member of the Hospital Auxiliary, a volunteer at the hospital and at Luther Haven. She also has enjoyed making counted cross stitch and needlepoint projects. She made each of her grandchildren a counted cross stitch wall hanging depicting each child’s favorite activities. She also stitched a quilt for each grandchild’s graduation from high school. As an additional hobby, Verona researched and compiled the genealogical data for three branches of the extended family. Because she enjoyed writing, she wrote and self-published brief histories of her family and of Saron Lutheran Church activities.

Verona is survived by six children: Joel (LaRae) Sachariason of Montevideo, MN; Carol Arneson of Plainfield, IL; Mary (Norm) Ritter of Cary, NC; Ed (Janice) Sachariason of Montevideo, MN; Janice (Michael) Holien of Sacred Heart, MN; Vera (Hollis) Weber of Hazel Run, MN; 21 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; a sister, Alice Kvistad of Granite Falls, MN; a sister-in-law, Shirley Sachariason of Montevideo; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Verona was preceded in death by her husband, Orton Sachariason; by her parents, Julius and Augusta Timm; a grandson, Matthew Holien; two brothers- Vernon Timm and Harlan Timm; two sisters- Harriet Mueller and Dorothy Meili.
