Victoria “Vicky” Swenson, of Dawson, died at the Johnson Memorial Hospital at the age of 86.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM on Saturday, August 29, 2015 at Grace Lutheran Church in Dawson with Rev. Kendall Stelter officiating and interment will be in the Dawson Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, August 28, 2015 from 5 - 7 PM with a prayer service at 6:30 PM at the Hanson & Dahl Funeral Home in Dawson and one hour before services at church on Saturday.
Victoria Mae (Hanson) Swenson was born May 31, 1929 in Swede Prairie Township, Yellow Medicine County to Amandus and Anna (Nelson) Hanson. She was baptized at Swede Home Lutheran Church and confirmed at Clarkfield Lutheran Church. In 1933, she and her family moved to a farm in Lisbon Township, near Clarkfield, MN. She graduated from Clarkfield High School in 1947. Vicky was employed at the Farmers and Merchants State Bank. On November 18, 1950, she was united in marriage to DuWayne Swenson at Clarkfield Lutheran Church. They lived and farmed in Maxwell Township for eight years. In 1958 they purchased a farm in Riverside Township, near Dawson. In 2007 they purchased a home in Dawson. Besides enjoying gardening and yard work, she developed an interest in crafts and sewing. With a special interest in children, she started making dolls in 1974. Since that time she has made over 1,200 dolls plus other craft items, especially items pertaining to Suffolk sheep which they raised. Over the years they did a lot of traveling and spent many winters in Arizona. Vicky was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church and Dawson VFW Auxiliary.
Vicky is survived by her husband, DuWayne; three children: Dean (Paula) Swenson of Walcott, ND, Bradley (Janet) Swenson of Colman, SD and Joyce (Alan) Oppegaard of Maple Grove, MN; seven grandchildren: Matt (Stacy) Swenson, Kent Swenson, Luke (Katy) Swenson, Ruth (Jeremiah) Missling, Sarah (Robert) Wilkison, Paul (Vicki) Swenson, and Nathan Jorgenson; 12 great-grandchildren: Zander, Lincoln, Tori, Noach, Gavin, Valerie, Tyra, Michael, Kaitlyn, Daniel, Anastasia, and Garrett.
Preceding her in death are her parents and a brother, Ellsworth Anderson.
