Vincent Welling

February 29, 1944 — October 31, 2013

Vincent Welling, of rural Big Bend, died on Thursday, October 31, 2013 at the Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar at the age of 69.  Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, November 4, 2013 at 10:30 A.M. at Big Bend Lutheran Church with Rev. Keith Long officiating.  Interment will be in the church cemetery.  Visitation will be Sunday from 4 - 7:00 P.M. with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. at the Anderson-TeBeest Funeral Home in Montevideo.

Vincent Douglas Welling was born on February 29, 1944 in Montevideo to Orville and June (Baardson) Welling. He was baptized and confirmed at Big Bend Lutheran Church.  He attended Milan High School, graduating in 1962.  On October 12, 1963 he was united in marriage to Dianne Bjornstad and they were blessed with five children - Mark, Janell, Gwen, Timothy and Matthew. Vince farmed for a number of years, raised livestock, worked on construction, worked in the lumber yard in Appleton and mowed road ditches for six townships.  Vince was a life-long and active member of Big Bend Lutheran Church. He was very active in the Milan-Big Bend Community including serving on the Milan School Board and LQPV Joint Powers Board, was a member of the Chippewa Co Pork Producers, Milan Lions, Western Prairie Farm Collectors and MN Valley Antique Farm Power Association. Vince enjoyed auctions, threshing shows and tractors, especially his R-Moline.  He liked working in his woodshop, playing pull-a-buck with the group in Milan and especially spending time with his grandchildren and attending their school and events.

He is survived by his wife Dianne; five children: Mark (and Brenda) Welling of Montevideo; Janell (and Paul) Kemen of Dawson, MN; Gwen Schroeder of Alexandria, MN; Timothy Welling of Appleton, MN; and Matthew (and Jennifer) Welling of Paynesville, MN; nine grandchildren: Jordan, Justin & Breanna Welling; Danika, Merissa and McKenna Schroeder; Brittany Jo Welling; and Paige and Preston Welling; a brother, James (and Lois) Welling of Waite Park, MN; his mother-in-law, Velma Schmidt of Montevideo;  by numerous other relatives and by his loving dog, Herbie.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his step-mother, Verda; a brother, Donald Welling; a son-in-law, Todd Schroeder and by  father-in-law, Walter Schmidt.
