Viola Catherine (Hoberg) Kittelson

Viola Kittelson, of Montevideo, died on Friday, January 7, 2000 in LaCrosse, WI at the age of 94.

Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, January 12, 2000 at 1:30 PM at Bergen Lutheran Church, rural Granite Falls, MN  with Rev. Julie Smith officiating.  Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be Tuesday afternoon and evening with a prayer service at 7 PM at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo.

Viola Catherine (Hoberg) Kittelson was born on January 24, 1905 in Montevideo, MN to Eric and Ida (Hadrath) Hoberg.  She was baptized and confirmed in the Methodist faith.  She began teaching at the age of 19 in a one room schoolhouse.  On August 26, 1927 she was united in marriage to Gerhard Kittelson.  They farmed for many years in the Clarkfield, MN area.  Viola later earned her B.A. in Education at St. Cloud State and returned to teaching, eventually becoming the Principal of Hazel Run Elementary.  She was an active member of Bergen Lutheran Church having served as Sunday School Superintendent and President of Ladies Aid. She was active as a 4 H leader, a COOP Board member and a member of the Degree of Honor.  She loved gardening and possessed a “green thumb” and was widely known for her baking skills.

She is survived by daughters - Patricia Hauge and her husband Malvin of New Port Richey, Florida; Diane McNeill and her husband Keith of LaCrosse, WI; 5 grandchildren  - Kristine Cunningham and her husband William; Kathryn Toscano and her husband Daniel; Erika Bresnahan and her husband Christopher; Sean McNeill and his wife Kari; and Cullen McNeill; 8 great grandchildren - Eliot Toscano; Taylor Cottrell; Malory Toscano; Jordan Cottrell; Kelsey Cunningham; Aidan McNeill; Erynn McNeill and Liam Cunningham; a nephew raised by her family - Lloyd Hoberg, Jr. of Port St. Lucie, FL as well as by a number of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Gerhard in 1966, and by brothers - Harvey, Alvie, Rolland, Lloyd and Erick Hoberg.
