Viola Evelyn (Evenson) Norby

Viola Norby, of Montevideo, died on Monday, December 4, 2006 at the Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo at the age of 89.

Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, December 8, 2006 at 11:00 AM at Our Savior's Lutheran Church with Rev. Donald S. McKee officiating.  Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Cemetery.  Visitation will be Thursday afternoon and evening at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo.

Viola Evelyn (Evenson) Norby was born on August 12, 1917  in Swenoda Township of Swift County, MN to Edwin and Emilie (Gilsrud) Evenson. She was baptized and confirmed at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Benson and attended rural school in Swenoda Township.  On November 17, 1942, she was united in marriage to Melvin Norby at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Benson.  They lived in Montevideo, where she worked as a waitress for 41 years at Belle’s, Tise’s and the Mall Café.  She also worked for a short time at The Hutch. She was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Montevideo and was active in women’s groups.   She was also a member of the VFW and American Legion Auxiliary.  She enjoyed cooking, baking, canning, camping and loved bright colored clothing.  She has been a resident of the Luther Haven Nursing Home since October of 2004.

She is survived by her husband, Melvin; five sisters: Amy Stay and Verna Myhre of Montevideo, Violet Jerve of Plymouth, MN, LaVina Evenson of Minnetonka, MN and Mardell Kennedy and her husband Keith of Bloomington, MN; two brothers: Raynold Evenson and his wife Carol of Montevideo and Dean Evenson and his wife Shirley of Benson, MN; 2 sisters-in-law, Marge Evenson of Benson, MN and Virginia Evenson of Montevideo and  by numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and four brothers: Orel, Lorando and Floyd Evenson and by Luverne in infancy.
