Viola Thompson, formerly of the Milan area, died on Tuesday, March 25, 2008 at the Appleton Nursing Home at the age of 92. Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, March 28, 2008 at 1:30 P.M. at Big Bend Lutheran Church with Rev. Jay Grave officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will begin at 12 noon and run up until the time of services at the Church on Friday. Anderson Funeral Home of Montevideo is in charge of funeral arrangements. Viola (Olson) Thompson was born on February 27, 1916 in Swift County, MN to Martin and Clara (Snelling) Olson. She was baptized on May 28, 1916 and later confirmed at West Bank Lutheran Church and attended rural schools. On November 10, 1935 she was united in marriage to Alvin T. Thompson by Rev. C.T. Jensen at the Big Bend Parsonage. She lived most of her lifetime in the Milan area and has been a resident of the Appleton Nursing Home since April of 2005. She worked several places in the Milan area and worked at the Carlson Doll Factory until her retirement. She was a member of Big Bend Lutheran Church and had been involved in its women's groups. She loved working outdoors, flowers and crocheting. She is survived by two daughters: Charlotte (and Ralph) Engel of Hillsboro, ND and Janice (and Richard) Solberg of Brooklyn Park, MN; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two brothers: Victor Olson of Little Falls, MN and Walter Olson of Montevideo, MN; two sisters: her twin sister, Vivian Grinager of Dawson, MN and Myrtle Thompson of Appleton, MN; as well as by a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Alvin; two brothers: Clifford and Melvin Olson and by a sister, Thelma Jerve.
