Virgil Amundson

Virgil Amundson passed away October 9, 2019 at Johnson Memorial Care Center in  Dawson, MN, at the age of 88.

Private services will be held at a later date.  Arrangements are with Hanson & Dahl Funeral Home in Dawson.

Virgil Lyle Amundson was born April 29, 1931 in Dawson, MN the son of Carl and Rhoda (Quenemoen) Amundson.  He grew up in the Dawson area, the son of a farmer.  As a boy he worked for a time for former governor Theodore Christianson.  In high school, he was a standout athlete on the football team and graduated from Dawson High School in 1949.

After a stint in the Army, Virgil became an entrepreneur.  He and Arlys owned several businesses in the Delano area, including the Delano Theater, Red Owl Store, and the Delano Manor nursing home.  They were also responsible for the restoration of the Delano Granite Works building before retiring to Dawson.  He was a lifetime member of local VFW post 5247 and was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Dawson.

Survived by his children James (Lizbeth) Amundson, Brian Amundson, Jane (John) Hayes, Janet (Russell) Morkrid, Mark Amundson, and Robert (Terri) Amundson, nine grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his wife Arlys (nee Larson); son, Jeffery; parents: Carl and Rhoda (nee Quenemoen) Amundson; and sister, Lorraine (Willard) Swain.

He will be greatly missed.
