Virgil C. Ellefson

September 20, 1935 — July 1, 2012

Virgil died Sunday, July 1, 2012, at his home in Dawson at the age of 76.

Funeral service was Thursday, July 5, 2012 at 10:30 AM at Grace Lutheran Church in Dawson with Pastor Kendall Stelter and Pastor John Biggs officiating; organist, Chris Lehne accompanied the congregation in singing "Softly and Tenderly", "Children of the Heavenly Father" and "What A Friend We Have In Jesus."  Jason L. Ellefson, Jason E. Ellefson, Roger A. Ellefson, Jeff Ellefson, Josie Krugerud and Teresa Ellefson were casketbearers and interment was in Grace Cemetery.

Visitation was Wednesday, at Hanson & Dahl Funeral Home in Dawson from 5-7:00 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM.

Virgil Charles Ellefson was born September 20, 1935 in Lac qui Parle County, MN the son of Arnold and Ethel (Larson) Ellefson.  He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.  He graduated from Dawson High School in 1953 and worked as a carpenter and on road construction as a cement finisher.  Virg married Sandra Deichmann in 1967.  They made their home in Dawson and raised two sons.  Virg worked on the construction of the Felco feed mill and started to work there when it opened for business in 1968.  After an accident, he attended the Canby area vo-tec and received a certificate in accounting.  He worked for various businesses in the area before starting as a machinist in 1995 at Victor Fluid Power in Granite Falls until he retired in 2000.  He had served on the Dawson Fire Dept. and the Dawson Coop Credit Union Board.

Virgil loved to go fishing.  He also enjoyed hunting, gardening, photography, cooking, and camping.  The past nine years, Virg and Sandy spent summers as campground hosts at Lac qui Parle State Park.

He is survived by his wife, Sandy; two sons: Earl of Dawson and Jason of Willmar; a granddaughter, Brittany of Willmar; five brothers: Roger (Anne) of Dawson, Merlin (Jane) of Dawson, Darrel (Linda) of Dawson, Kenneth (Linda) of Dawson and Walter (Dawn) of Minnetonka; a sister-in-law, Mary (Verdell) Krugerud of Shakopee; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Preceding him in death were his parents; a sister-in-law, Ardis Ellefson; a niece, Juanna Ellefson; and a nephew, Troy Ellefson.
