Virgil Grant Lange

Virgil Lange, of Montevideo, died on Monday, December 1, 2003 at the Chippewa County - Montevideo Hospital at the age of 87.

Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, December 6, 2003 at 1:00 PM at the United Methodist Church with Rev. Paul Woolverton officiating.  Interment will be in the Sunset Memorial Cemetery.

Visitation will be Friday afternoon and evening and with the family from 5 - 6 PM at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo.

Virgil Grant Lange was born on December 17, 1915 at Wood Lake, MN to Julius and Mae (Chapin) Lange.  He grew up in the Wood Lake area and attended rural schools. He worked on farms and helped build silos for Norling Brothers.  On July 19, 1941 he was united in marriage to Doris Lindecker at the Methodist parsonage in Montevideo.  In January of 1942 he entered the US Army, serving at the Normandy Landing, Battle Of The Bulge and throughout France & Germany.  He worked at the Monte Ready Mix plant for many years as well as working for Hutchinson Technology.  He was most recently a greeter for WalMart.  He was an active member of the Montevideo United Methodist Church, VFW Post #380, helped found the area Diabetes Club and helped organize the Diabetes Bike-a-Thon for many years.  Virgil loved the outdoors and was a great fisherman, winning several trophies for the fish he caught.

He is survived by his wife, Doris; a daughter, Sandra Nash and her husband Doug of St. Louis, MO; two grandchildren: Scott Nash of Minneapolis, MN and Rochelle Carey and her husband Chris of O’Fallon, MO; and a great-grandson Ethan Carey.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Larry Lange; a grandson, Eric Nash; and by two sisters: Margaret Benson and Eva Tolefson.
