Virgil Larson

Virgil Larson, of the Hagen/Big Bend area, died on Friday, May 1, 2009 at the St. Cloud Hospital at the age of 81. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, May 9, 2009 at 1:30 P.M. at Big Bend Lutheran Church with Rev. Jay Grave officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Friday afternoon and evening, with the family present from 5 - 7 PM and with a prayer service at 7:00 PM, all at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo, as well as for one hour prior to the services at the church. Virgil Harris Larson was born December 17, 1927 in Big Bend Township, Chippewa County, MN the son of Elroy and Ida (Lea) Larson. He was baptized and confirmed at Big Bend Lutheran Church and attended County School District # 35. On May 7, 1949, he was united in marriage to Mavis Lein at the Watson Lutheran Church. They lived in rural Watson, MN for five years before moving to "the snip" in Hagen, MN in 1954, where he has resided for the past 55 years. Virgil has been involved with Larson Gravel, Co. since the early 1940's. The business was formed with his father Elroy and brother Juleen. In later years, he was joined by nephew Allen and son Larry. Virgil had continued washing and screening gravel with his son Larry. Virgil's work, hobbies and interests were the gravel business. He enjoyed family, friends, and work associates. He was an active life long member of the Big Bend Lutheran Church. He is survived by twins: Larry Larson of Milan, MN and Linda Haugen and her husband Tim of Elm Springs, SD; a daughter, Lois Doring and her husband Randy of Champlin, MN; six grandchildren: Tyler (Dee) Haugen of Sturgis, SD, Tadd (Shannon) Haugen of Sundance, WY, Will (Cortney) Haugen of Mitchell, SD, Lane (Zach) Shull of Rapid City, SD, Matt (Amber) Doring of Big Lake, MN and Josh Doring of Champlin, MN; ten great-grandchildren: Dillon and Annika Haugen; Landry and Arina Dee Haugen; Kamryn Shull; twins: Prestyn and Peyton and Adessa Haugen; Trey and Addison Doring; two sisters: Elaine Bergo of Montevideo, MN and June (Bernie) Knutson of Hutchinson, MN; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Mavis in 2006; a brother Juleen Larson; and two brothers-in-law: Loren Bergo and Tom Hermanson. May his memory be blessed.
