Virginia Aamot

February 8, 1922 — July 22, 2018

Virginia Aamot of Roseville, formerly of Montevideo died on Sunday, July 22, 2018 at her home in Roseville at the age of 96.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 1, 2018 at 10:30AM at Our Saviors Lutheran Church with Pastor Marie Eckberg officiating.  Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Cemetery.

Visitation with the family will be held one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.

Virginia (Ahlgren) Aamot was born on February 8, 1922 in Hettinger, ND to Ralph and Kathryn (Bracewell) Ahlgren.  She was baptized and confirmed in Bucyrus, ND.  She attended and graduated from high school in Northville, SD in 1940.  Following high school she enrolled in the nursing program at Presentation School of Nursing in Aberdeen, SD and graduated in 1943.  She worked for a short time in Aberdeen but then moved to St. Paul, MN working at Miller Hospital.  It was in St. Paul, MN where she met her husband, Verdie.  They were married on August 31, 1946 at Como Park Lutheran Church in St. Paul, MN.  They moved to Montevideo where Virginia was employed as a nurse first at the Montevideo Clinic and then as a surgical nurse at the Montevideo Hospital.  The family moved back to the Twin Cities area where Virginia worked at St. Francis Hospital in Shakopee, MN in ICU and CCU until her retirement in 1985.   In 1991 Verdie and Virginia moved back to Montevideo. Virginia spent her last 13 years in  Roseville.

Virginia was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran church.   She enjoyed time at the lake cottage and loved to fish as well as work crossword and jigsaw puzzles.  In her retirement Virginia  volunteered with the Red Cross and Luther Haven Nursing Home  Family will remember that Virginia always put others first and was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Virginia is survived by her children: Lawrence (Cindy), Forest Lake, MN and Patricia (Billy) Thomas of Athens, GA; grandchildren: Jessica, Manda, Nathan and Brian; 11 great-grandchildren; sister Lorraine Sarracco; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Verdie; siblings: Don Ahlgren, Charlene Berger and Jeannine Erickson.

Memorials are preferred to the American Macular Degeneration Foundation.
