Virginia Anderson of Willmar, formerly of Montevideo, passed away Friday, September 20, 2019 at Bethesda Grand in Willmar at the age of 88.
Funeral services will be held Monday, September 23, 2019 at 10:30 AM at Calvary Lutheran Church in Willmar. Pastor Tim Malek will officiate, and burial will be in Sunset Memorial Cemetery in Montevideo.
Visitation with the family will be held Sunday, September 22, 2019 from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Montevideo, with a prayer service starting at 6:30 PM. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services on Monday.
Virginia Madeline Marks was born January 14, 1931 in Faulkton, SD to John and Bertha (Geist) Marks. She was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith. Virginia attended and graduated from Central High School in Aberdeen, SD. She was united in marriage to Russell Anderson on May 14, 1950 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Montevideo, MN. Together they had three children.
Virginia worked many years at Sears in Montevideo where she made lifelong friends. She enjoyed being involved with the Montevideo Fire Department for the 30 years Russ served. Virginia was also a member of the Montevideo Legion and VFW Auxiliary. She was a long time member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Montevideo, and when Russ and her moved to Willmar she joined Calvary Lutheran Church in Willmar. Virginia enjoyed playing cards especially bridge, vacationing in Northern Minnesota with her family for over 50 years, but most of all spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was well known for her mocha cakes which she made for many of her grandchildren’s events.
She is survived by her three children, Colleen (Paul) Wallien of Aberdeen, SD, Anita (Mark) Werner of New London, MN, and Allen Anderson of Madison, MN; sister, Barbara Jahraus of Great Falls, Montana; grandchildren, Andrea (Lucas) Dietterle, Daniel (Meera) Wallien, Heidi (Kyle) Jordan, Jeremy (Desiree) Werner, Hannah (Fiancé Brian) Anderson, Matthew Anderson, and Emma Anderson; great-grandchildren, Cayden, Hailey, Logan, Harper, Dax, Beau, and Soraya; daughter-in-law, Michelle Anderson; and numerous family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Russell Anderson in 1999; brothers, Alvin, Leo, Gordon, Eddie Marks, and two in infancy; and sisters, Ethel Henstein, Esther Lambert, Minnie Nolte, and Arlene Burghart.
